You probably know that we’re big fans of BackupBuddy. We’ve been using it for a long time, and truly believe there is no better backup (and restore) solution available for WordPress.
Well, it just got better!
BackupBuddy 8.0 has just been released, and it brings with it a host of new features and improvements.
Smart Backup Profiles
With the new smart backup profiles, you get even more granular control over what gets backed up. By default, BackupBuddy 8.0 provides the following profiles:
However, you can add custom profiles that include just the files and folders you want in a particular backup. This can be very useful if your host server has resource limitations – it will greatly improve the success rate of your backups.
You can even backup files outside of the WordPress root directory if needed.
Performance Boost For Stash Live
BackupBuddy 7.0 introduced a real time backup system call “Stash Live”.
Stash Live works by making a real-time copy of your site, streaming your database and files over to your BackupBuddy Stash. Snapshots (backups) then run on the Stash servers, taking a big load off your own hosting server.
BackupBuddy 8.0 can now handle much larger sites with less resource usage. So you always have a real-time backup as changes are made to your website.
ImportBuddy is the script used to do a full site restore, or to move your site to a new host or domain. BackupBuddy 8.0 adds some new features to solve some user pain points, plus some new UI improvements. ImportBuddy now includes options for resetting a forgotten password & keeping or changing the Search Engine Visibility option.
Making major changing directly on your live site is never a good idea. Some hosts (like SiteGround) offer staging site capabilities, which allow you to easily create a copy of your site, make the changes there, and (when you are happy) push the changes back to your live site.
If you don’t have these capabilities with your host, then you could use BackupBuddy to restore your site on to a sub-domain and achieve a similar result. But until now, you still needed to do a full backup of this site and then restore it on to your live site.
With BackupBuddy 8.0, you can use the Deployment features to create a real staging site. And you get 1 click options to push changes between the staging site and the live site. You can even see what files will be copied as part of this process before committing to the synchronisation.
